  •  CopCAST Episode 86 - The Liberal Flu

CopCast PodcastThis week only two of the stooges were available to do the show. Morgan went to San Francisco for a business meeting and we really thought the liberals had kidnapped him. It ended up that he merely contracted a bad dose of the liberal flu. I knew he should have been vaccinated before going to that bastion of liberalism.

On the brighter side, we had a CopCAST first - Bloomfield, MO Chief Jason Curtman sent us our first audio comment. We also learned that Jerry Seinfeld will be the spokesman in the new Microsoft commercials . . . not that there is anything wrong with that! Also on the tech side, Chrysler will introduce an internet hotspot option in their new vehicles.

Wearing a helmet can save a life - yours!

View from the CopIt has been 34 years since I was on a motorcycle. I was working for a bread company after getting out of the military and I bought the bike and used it for the three-mile ride to work each morning. Early one morning, and when I say early I mean 4:30 a.m., and if you deliver bread you're feeling me.

I came around the corner over near Pleasantdale Road and lost control of the bike in the curve and down I went. I had a busted collarbone but that was all. I got the bike fixed and then sold it. I really liked the bike but I had a feeling that it wasn't for me.

Back on August 7th, Sammy "The Worm" Worsham was responding to a help call put out by one of our detectives who had stumbled onto a bad guy. Sammy was on a Harley going north in the 6500 block of Roswell Road. He was running blue lights and siren but right as he passed the Sandy Springs Toyota, a car pulled out and Sammy hit it. He saw it coming and was in the process of trying to slow the bike. He said later that he knew he was going to hit but thought he could at least slow it down some before impact.

     Lost generations

The Johnny Law ChroniclesMy job usually takes me to the worst ghetto neighborhoods of my town. When I am there I can't help but be amazed at how some people live and act. We execute raids on houses and within minutes there are dozens of folks standing out in the street rubbernecking. These are grown ass men and women who should be at work at 10AM on a Tuesday but seem to have nothing better to do that hang out at my crime scene.

You would think that these crowds would be happy that we are actively clearing out drug houses. Nope. Instead they like to stand around and yell out helpful comments like:

(warning, this blog entry contains profanity -- Gordon)

CopCAST Episode 85 - Excessive Sound Effects

CopCast PodcastIn the words of Mick Jagger, "Too much is never enough." OK, so we went a little overboard with the sound effects but therein lies the danger of giving little boys fancy toys. However our legion of listeners really came through for us by sending in some great local stories and our CopCAST correspondents searched the web to find some great news reports.

CNN never covers the really interesting stories like the robber who locked his keys in his get away car so we do. Most of us like to go on a department sponsored road trip every now and then. However, one Kentucky sheriff may have carried it a little far on a recent extradition. I apologize in advance but you know we were going to have to talk about the recent Big Foot finding. Like they say,"There is a sucker born every minute." We also tell you about a new program that provides e-mail for inmate. It actually is not as bad as it sounds. These are just a few of the stories we discuss this week.

     Viewer mail

The Johnny Law ChroniclesI received this question in my post The debate rages on:

"Hypothetically I am pulled over for something and I am carrying my unloaded gun in a lock case which is in the trunk. Does the officer who stops me need to know that? I figure I wouldn't volunteer the information unless he asked, but is it better for me to say I have it up front?"

Score another win for the good guys

The Johnny Law ChroniclesMan it's just been a good couple of days for truth and justice. I'm sure many of you remember the incident in TX where a homeowner say his neighbor's house being broken into by some scum. This guy calls 911 and when the police were too slow getting there, decided to stop them himself.

Long story short, he ends up shooting and killing the two career criminals. All the predictable cries of outrage came from the anti-gun folks. Race-baiters came out and condemned him as well.

CopCAST Episode 84 - No Starbucks For You!

CopCast PodcastOur legion of listeners really came through for us this week. We kick things off with some great feedback from both new and veteran CopCAST listeners. If that was not good enough, our CopCAST correspondent corps continues to grow and they are providing us with some great fodder for the show

This week a Chicago cop gets the distinction of serving as our keynote story because of her passion for Starbucks coffee and pastries. A Maryland agency has a major "Oh, crap" moment when they raid the mayor's house and shoot his dogs. Will New York soon be more wired than London? You be the judge. Then there is the Longmont Pornography Age Verification Unit that is not - or something like that. Sound interesting? Well that is just a brief peek into this week's episode.

CopCAST Episode 83 - Goodbye Scotty

CopCast PodcastIn honor of Scotty, this episode blasts off and boldly goes where no podcast has gone before. Well that may be a little over-dramatic but it is a pretty good show. We did a heck of lot better job than those guys who were supposed to send Scotty's ashes into space.

We start out with a ten year old crime fighter who dimed out his mom. The OPP are considering starting a used car business with all of their confiscated vehicles. Our sympathies go out to the friends and family of Deputy Juan Escalante of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department who was shot to death outside his home. There will be no more peeing on the doors in Torquay, Devon. A judge has ordered that a Glasgow pensioner stop going to the pub as punishment for killing his wife. We actually have proof that the 80/20 rule applies to law enforcement. And these are just a few of the stories we discuss this week.

CopCAST Episode 82 - The Three Stooges

CopCast PodcastThe CopCAST crew had gotten larger! No, I'm not talking about Mack's increased waist size after his three week vacation. Morgan Wright, from The Thin Blue Line, has joined crew as a regular host (although some would say "irregular"). We hope that our legion of listeners will have fun listening to the new expanded CopCAST crew.

Believe it or not, we actually received several e-mails from our listeners (happy, happy, happy - joy, joy joy!). This week it was the bad guy who got surprised in Surprise, AZ. Some cops in North Carolina used text messages to turn the table on a juvenile thief. Some German women mistook the real cops for costumed strippers. We also point you to one Website where you can find the deadliest rural highways and another site that is really "Cuil". Have a business to advertise? Why not sponsor a video camera - just like NASCAR?

     Episode 7

The Thin Blue Line PodcastPart Two: The Thin Blue Line interviews noted civil rights attorney Connie Rice about her efforts with the Advancement Project (www.advanceproj.org) and Healthy City (www.healthycity.org) to address gang crime in Los Angeles county. Her partnership with Sheriff Lee Baca is truly a novel approach as they look at gang crime from the perspective of an epidemic. Hear Connie discuss new strategies in combating a plague that has claimed more than 5800 lives over the last 10 years.
